A Great Cycle Day Out

The Be a Garden Maker

Is a place to visit. Very warm and friendly with a cosy log fire and great food to go with it.

Sadly this cafe is no longer open in 2023! will keep you posted on what its changing too

Has a T1 for 50 years I decided to test the soup on the menu for my sugar levels to good after for the cycle ride home, (see the route we did below!) which with delight it worked well in the afternoon cycle ride home! I calculated 6u for the soup and bread but I personally think it should of be 8u for me! Please understand what I put on here it is for me only and you should always go to your own medical needs and see your own GP! I'm only putting on here to give you an idea of what I took for my food and insulin dose and a guild for you when cycling, but remember, it will be different for everybody else's diabetes control than mine!

I did around 20 miles after having this soup and levels were kept steady all through the 20 miles it seems to look like my levels were coming down fast but this was not the case, I dosed for around 80g 6u Novo Rapid insulin for this meal but did 2u less due to cycling which I think the next time I will give myself 7u the food greatly helped me not have to keep eating every 30 minutes on the rest of the bike ride like it was in the morning, so I would class this soup very good at the right moments for a T1 on a cycle ride! But for having a lazy day I would not have this food with it having too many carbs in it.

BeAGardenMaker food I had when I visited was Roasted Sweet potato Cream Soup

My blood sugar levels were good from the morning until I stopped cycling at the cafe! I was a little late at getting some insulin into me too which I normally try to do it 15 minutes before the cafe stop depending on the directions of my sugar levels. On this ride, I think I have one packet too many of the Belvita snack of 33g before the cafe stop. Which was due to me not knowing there was going to be an earlier cafe stop than I would normally do. I would tend to carry on cycling for at least another hour, but on this occasion, it was not the case.

I also finished the cycle run a lot earlier than I would normally do too, this was due to it being cold at -5 and ice on the road and rain were expected later. The Hypo you see in xDrip below was after the cycle run is not as bad as it looks. I had food as soon as I'd finished which is what I would normally do at around 3 to 3:30 pm

I will keep you posted on next weeks cycle run which I believe is a short ride, will be great for people just learning to figure a diabetes cycle run! Here is the run next week please come and join me T1's! The Pendle Paso Doble
